PARMIGIANI Bending Rolls

In 1927 Ernesto Parmigiani began manufacturing tank equipment for the chemical industry in the northern Italian town of Cremona. Rapid growth led to the development of plate and section rolls as well as dishing and flanging machines. Over 80 years later, Parmigiani remains a family owned company producing a wide variety of innovative machines for the rolling industry. Whether you’re a job shop rolling small angle, or producing fuselages and wings for Airbus or Boeing – Parmigiani has a machine designed with you in mind.

Plate Bending Rolls

All Parmigiani plate rolls feature heavy frames, high clamping & bending power, and a variety of control options designed for longevity and ease of use. Parmigiani features Anti-frictional Vertical Guides (AVG) to position the rolls. The AVG concept places the lower rolls in a machined linear surface with anti-frictional material reducing the centerline distance between the side and central rolls. Rolling forces are directly transmitted to the hydraulic cylinders. This design has no pivot points or pins to wear and/or affect parallelism when rolling. The rolls are electronically balanced for parallelism hence there is no torque tube which can create twisting stresses in the machine frame allowing the hydraulic system to operate more efficiently. Parmigiani features the Heavy-Duty Multi-Bearing System (HMB) which places four heavy duty multi-bearings on each end of each roll. These additional bearings guarantee optimal distribution of the load even during cone rolling and increase the drive efficiency by reducing friction.

TBH Series — The Parmigiani 3-roll double-pinch machines offer a versatile roll for the job shops that demand flexibility and reliability. Capacities range from 2 to 27 feet and plate capability from 0.08 to 5 inches. An all-around machine for the ever changing demands of customers.

VBH Series — The Parmigiani 4-roll double-pinch machine is perfect for shops that have high volumes to produce in light to moderate weight material. The 4-roll design is often considered the easiest machine to use due to minimal handling of the material. The rear roll (side roll) can be used as a backstop to square the plate before starting the rolling process. Additionally, the plate does not have to be removed, rotated, and re-entered into the machine to prebend both edges of the material. Parmigiani’s VBH series can handle over 8” thick plate at various lengths depending on each customers needs. The most sophisticated type of CNC controls can be incorporated into these machines.

PCO Series — The Parmigiani 3-roll “variable axes” machines allow the operator to adjust the top roll vertically and the two lower rolls laterally. Featuring massive rolling power with accurate prebending (because the lower rolls are independently adjustable – the operator can move one lower roll close to the top roll during the prebending process and minimize the flat on the leading edge of the plate). Standard machines can process 12” thick plate and larger. They can also be manufactured for heavier or specialized material. This design offers maximum flexibility for cone rolling/bending.

Section Bending Rolls

Parmigiani constructs the Planet Series of section rolls that combine a solid, heavy frame with technical innovations including “inter-axes” versatility. The 3-roll design allows for double independent adjustment of both lower rolls. This design not only gives the operator more control during the rolling process but also results in more uniform, consistent parts. All three rolls on the Parmigiani section machines are driven by hydraulic motors as opposed to less powerful (and less expensive) chain drive systems. Directly coupled to each motor are planetary reduction gears that automatically compensate for speed between the rolls when under load. The two guide roll assemblies on the Planet Series are adjustable in 6 directions from the operator’s control. This assures maximum control when guiding the section in and out of the rolls and maintaining the desired shape of the material as its being rolled. A unique feature on the Parmigiani section machines is the rapid adjustment of the tools on the roll shaft. The Parmigiani system features an effortless adjustment on each individual roll allowing the operator to spend less time adjusting tools and more time rolling. For utmost efficiency and ease of operation, many sizes of the section rolls can be used in both the vertical or horizontal position and come equipped with tools for rolling a variety of standard sections. Standard Planet machines have the capacity to bend H beams up to 40” and pipe up to 24”. Parmigiani can customize a machine or tooling for any specific application.

Dishing and Flanging Machines

Parmigiani manufactures a wide range of dishing and flanging machines for producing a variety of heads and shapes that meet international standards. Dishing machines up to 1500 tons and blank diameters up to 40 feet can be fitted with automatic manipulation of the part. This system moves, lifts, and rotates the blank allowing for greater operator efficiency and safety. Flanging machines can accept up to 2.4” plate thickness with head diameters reaching up to 33 feet, with or without the center hole in the blank. A wide range of tools are easily changed and produce the best possible geometric accuracy of the part with minimal material thickness reduction and excellent surface quality of the product.

Controls

Parmigiani offers a variety of controls depending on the requirements of the customer. From simple digital monitors to 15” color touch screens, Parmigiani can customize a control to fit your needs. The Control’s large memory can hold multiple programs, automatically calculate the bending of your part and control the machine through the entire process. With a truly unique concept to the bending roll industry, Parmigiani also features “on-board diagnostics”. If a system failure occurs with a Parmigiani machine equipped with this feature – the operator simply accesses the diagnostic screen on the control which instantly and precisely displays which component has malfunctioned, allowing for quick replacement or reset.
