Chasco Machine and Mfg. in Brooksville, Florida, is celebrating their ten year anniversary. Chasco’s owner, Jeff Roth, has not once altered his pledge to make products that exceed the expectations of his customers. Competing against local, national and finally international companies, Chasco has adapted a business method in the past ten years that has proven to be as unique as it is successful.

In an industry where the stress on price and quality is a given, there stands a courageous business owner and entrepreneur; Jeff Roth, owner of Chasco machine has made a new path by staying in the cut 24 hours a day and finding success. Though cycle time is important, at this shop the stress is put on extending the tool life. The Advantages? Jeff Roth explains, “This allows us to run a machine unattended 24 hours giving us more production at less cost, more precise parts with less human error.”

All of the equipment is customized or adjusted to Chasco’s Lights Out Innovation; they have embraced the lights out innovative technology with their proprietary and unique process. This process allows them to remain very competitive and produce high quality products even in a down time. Jeff, a firm believer in capital-intense business, has cultivated and trained his shop to run unattended, giving him an exclusive advantage and allowing him to offer big savings to his customers.

Jeff felt that the Eurotech Lico multi-slide CNC lathe LNT-42S was a good fit for his unique business strategy. Knowing not one machine is best for all parts Jeff realized the Lico would fill a present void in his shop.

“Lico CNC automatics specialize in certain parts that a generic CNC cannot compete on,” Jeff affirms.

He needed a machine that would run parts from 3/8” to 1 ¾”.

“I chose the Lico because it is unique in that it has screw machine speed, but CNC flexibility. Due to the way the machine is configured, enabling up to 4 tools in the cut simultaneously and being more compact (thus not having as far to move in the production process as the more expensive machines), it offered a 30 second difference in cycle time on certain parts, in particular aerospace connectors.

Jeff Roth adds that not only is the cycle time faster; it is a less expensive machine, thereby offering a completely different price structure on the parts being made and offering savings to his customers:

“We have some low cost parts that have limited tool life for these parts, like the connectors, the Eurotech Lico is perfect. You wouldn’t take a part that has no live tool operations and put it on a multi-axis lathe and expect to make maximum yield on the part.”

At this time the Lico produces approximately 15,000 connectors for Chasco Machine per month. But thanks to the relatively easy and quick set up of the machine the company is offered the flexibility to run anywhere from 5 to 5,000 pieces depending on the job demand.

Other parts produced by Chasco Machine offers their own unique challenges, numbers, and pricing, calling on different machines, planning and execution for each in order to take full advantage of the Lights Out process.

“The success of our business is based on partnerships with our customers and suppliers,” said Jeff Roth. “We invest in technology to produce more for less.” Chasco’s other equipment such as the full articulating Fanuc Robot eliminates human error as well as labor cost all the while providing precision parts consistently. Chasco combines this robot with one of their nine high-end, late model Eurotech machines which have Y axis capability as well as 2 to 3 tools in the cut on the part at all times. The technology and incredible accuracy of the Eurotech help eliminate human error, by eliminating the necessity to move complex tight tolerance parts from machine to machine to create a finished product.

Specializing in “lights out” parts, Chasco Machine has manufactured some of the most complex parts for aircraft controls and fuel systems meeting the demanding tolerance levels. Automatic loading of raw material keeps productivity consistent and free of high labor costs. All prints and specifications are computer processed and automatically downloaded to the applicable CNC system.

Planning and execution also plays a major part in the lights out process. Utilizing a highly developed APS system known as Preactor, the company keeps themselves updated on where exactly each job is located and the timeline of its completion. With their lights out innovations, they have developed a process that allows productivity 24 hours a day, resulting in substantial savings to customers.
